I was looking back through my photos to find the first candle I ever made and can't believe it was almost three years ago.
Like I'm sure most candle enthusiasts, I never made it to the end of a candle. Mainly because I was too busy buying new ones that took my fancy so the older ones would get forgotten about; the amount of half and three-quarter burnt Yankee or Woodwick Candles I had lying around was ridiculous.
My boyfriend is also a typical hoarder and I was getting fed-up with the increasing number of pudding glass/pot things which were accumulating in the kitchen cupboard with no specific use. So I decide one day to go on Amazon, buy some cheap wicks and glitter (as who doesn't love a bit of sparkle) and repurpose some of these half used candles.
The result is the picture shown in this blog...I was incredibly proud and burnt it for a while until the next new candle purchase (ha ha!). But this is what sparked my inspiration for candle-making. I did some research into the cost of wax, equipment etc, found out the best way to melt wax and then when I found the world of candle fragrance oils, I was in my element (another trait of mine is having stupid amounts of perfumes because of the different scents).
So my recommendation if you are interested in dipping your toe into candle-making is to do what I did. Find a random pot or jar you don't use, an old candle which you arent burning anymore and melt down the wax in a pan of boiling water (be careful!), then you just need some wicks from Amazon which are a few quids and you will have made a brand new candle from scratch...one which will be much loved as its made with your own fair hands
If you try this, let me know how you get on, would love to see pictures of your creations
Happy Candle-Making!
